We envision a Catholic school in which students are prepared to become self-directed, life-long learners empowered by the gospel message of Jesus Christ to live a life of virtue, integrity, and service to others.
St. John Berchmans Catholic School is a renewed vision of Catholic education in the Diocese of Shreveport and a place where students have the opportunity to grow spiritually, academically, and socially in an atmosphere enriched by Christian values. St. John's is committed to creating an environment where teachers can live out their vocation to teach, to pass on their faith, to collaborate with their peers, and to receive the support and grace needed to grow professionally and spiritually. St. John Berchmans School is committed to promoting academic excellence, personal responsibility, and spiritual awareness among the students so they may live more fully in a relationship with God and others.
Profile
Opened in 1949, St. John Berchmans School began with a staff of six sisters from the religious congregation called Daughters of the Cross. Along with a quality education and human formation in a loving environment, the faith has been passed down throughout the years to meet the growing needs of the school. The school year of 2005 brought a new principal to the school, Mrs. Jo Cazes, and a new pastor to the Cathedral Parish, Fr. Peter Mangum. With renewed vision for the parish and enthusiastic commitment for its school, major renovations have begun on the students' academic formation. Renovations have included the Multi-room/gymnasium, Parish Hall, bathrooms, science and computer labs, cafeteria, classrooms, and administrative offices. Improvements are ongoing as we continue to update our facility.
