Conduct grades for the first three weeks of January have been sent to Edline.  I thought the grades for the week ending 1/8 had already been sent, but I'm not certain.  They did, however, go home on the weekly conduct report.

Conduct grades for the week ending 1/29 (this Friday) will be sent home on Friday and submitted to Edline next week.

Everyone returned their math practice test today.  Thank you!

FYI...next Friday, 12/18, we have early dismissal (11:30).  There will be no aftercare provided on that day.

Monday is a 2:00 dismissal day.  Aftercare IS provided on Monday.

We will be having a book exchange on the day of our party.  Please wrap and send a book appropriate for both a boy or a girl.  Put who the gift is from on the tag, but do not put who it is "to."  $5.00 limit please.

A math practice test is in the folders tonight for homework.  It needs to be completed and returned tomorrow.  It is worth ten points.  We will review tomorrow.  Your child may take the geometry test on Friday or next Monday.  Please circle when you would like your child to take the test.  Thanks!

There has been a change made to our weekly planner for this week and next week.

We will have our spelling test and reading assessment on Friday, as usual.  Students who make 100% will not have a test next Wednesday.  Students who do not score 100% will have the opportunity to re-take the tests (both spelling and reading assessment) on Wednesday, 12/16.   

There will be no pretest on this Friday.  However, the words listed under "heads up for 12/17" will be our first list of spelling words when we return after New Year.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask or e-mail.  Thanks!

If your child is a Cub Scout, he should bring his Cub Scout uniform shirt to school tomorrow (Tuesday, 11/10).  A group picture will be taken for the school yearbook.

Your child does not have to work on the animal writing piece at home.  We will do the research and writing in class this week.  However, if she/he wants to download an internet picture or draw a picture of the selected animal at home to include in the report, that would be great.

I will post conference schedules for parent-teacher conferences outside the multi-room today.

Conferences will begin Tuesday and end Thursday.  Thursday after-school conferences are only for those who absolutely cannot meet at a different time.  I will greatly appreciate your help in this matter.

Parent-Teacher Conference schedule will be posted outside multi-purpose room on Monday.  Just to give you an idea, slots will be available in ten minute blocks beginning as early as Wednesday (and possibly Tuesday).

I schedule conferences before school beginning at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 7:10 a.m.  Then, they begin again at 3:25 p.m.

On Thursday, I can be at the school as late as 7:45 p.m. for anyone who really needs a later conference.  I will work with you any way that I can so that we can find a time that is convenient for you.  I am trying not to be at school on Friday (I go to Slidell to stay with my mom on Fridays and Saturdays)  .

MONDAY, 10/17...Field Trip to Papa Simpson's Farm.  Wear jeans and your red uniform shirt.  Bring a sack lunch and wear shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.  You also might want a light jacket or sweater if it is cool.

Congratulations to Aubrey, Evan, Amanda, Isabella, Cheyenne, Thomas R., Selena, Meredith, Marshall, and Sarah who are exempt from this week's spelling test (10/17).  Overall, the spelling test grades were great!

Math practice test due today:  WEDNESDAY.

I will send all practice tests home today so that you can be working on these skills at home.  Please return the practice tests on Thursday or Friday (depending upon when your child is taking the test).

If you have not returned the signed permission slip and $8.00 for our trip to Papa Simpson's farm on 10;/19, please do so at your earliest convenience.  I will put a blank copy in the green folder today in case the permission slip has been misplaced.  Thanks!!!!

Our plant lab yesterday was wonderful!!!  We learned to identify roots, leaves, stems, flowers.  We also compared and contrasted tap roots with our flower roots.

Our spelling test and pretest will be given Thursday instead of Friday.  We will also take our reading assessment on Thursday.

Our October Scholastic book order has been placed!  Thank you so, so much for supporting your child's reading and our classroom library with your orders.  We had a HUGE order!!!

With the bonus points earned from your orders, I was able to order for the class 4 CDs/Books for our listening center, 2 class sets of books (40 books), and several sets of 6 books for our independent reading!!!!   I was also able to order a set of sceince readers for our science library.  WOW!!!!!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!!!

Our Scholastic book order will be placed Monday.  I know your children are anxious to get their books, but I wanted to wait until I had the "hard copy" orders from school.  The books could arrive as early as this Friday, but it will probably be next week before they arrive.  I appreciate your understanding in this matter.

I have posted our sight words for unit one (weeks 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 ) on our web page entitled "SIGHT WORDS,"  I will continue to have the children carry their sight words rings back and forth between home and school...I just wanted to give a "heads up" to families wanted to know the sight words ahead of time.

  On another note, I did not send sight word rings home today.  They will be sent home tomorrow.  The first 3 weeks sight words (which are our kindergarten words) are listed on our website under sight words.  We will be tested on this words at the end of the third week.

Student Information Cards have ALL been returned.  I have never had EVERY SINGLE information card back by the second day of school.  I don't know how it happens, but I always end up with THE MOST COOPERATIVE parents in the school.  THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Today was even better than yesterday (and yesterday was plenty great!).  Tuesday is poetry night.  Please read the poem to and with your child.  Then, help your child complete the activity on the back.  THEN...help your child put the poem into his/her poetry binder.  Thanks!

Our sight word rings are in our green folders today.  Please run through the words with your child.  Practice the words that are unknown.  The sight words on our ring for the first three weeks are the sight words we should have mastered in kindergarten.  If your child is having trouble with these, any extra help you gave give will be greatly appreciated. 

August 17, 2009    

Today was a great first day!!  THANK YOU for having your children at school on time.  EVERYONE was on time and ready to start our day.  The children are anxious to start centers.   We will have our first literacy center tomorrow.  We'll add one or two centers a day until we know how to do all of them. 

DIBELS testing will starting tomorrow.  I'll test the children who are in before-school care first.  I hope to be finished with first grade by the end of the week...or early next week.

Thank you to all who attended orientation Sunday evening.  It was wonderful to meet and talk to so many of you!  We are off to a great start!!  Thank you, also, to those who took "wish list" notes!  :-)
