Middle School at SJB provides the complete package as we guide and shape young minds spiritually, emotionally, and academically. The highly qualified faculty collaborates on a daily basis to ensure that students are engaged and challenged while being nurtured in a warm, supportive environment. STREAM is strong at St. John Berchmans. As the original pilot school, SJB’s Science class incorporates NICERC’s (National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center) STEM EDA (Explore, Discovery, Apply) curricula, teaching the engineering design process through hands on, cross-curricular lessons. In addition to a new 4,100 square foot library and technology center, technology is integrated into every classroom. Religion is at the very foundation of who we are as a school and evident throughout every class.

Mrs. Amy Knight, middle school science teacher and licensed pharmacist, integrates the STEM EDA curricula across grade levels engaging students through hands-on projects that help improve their problem-solving and critical thinking skills while seamlessly integrating the Engineering Design Process. Engineering design is taught within the Science curriculum while adopting the mindset in the classroom and in life that we learn through our mistakes and that challenges make us think. The arts come to life not only in drama, music and art class, but also throughout the curriculum in projects, plays, and presentations. Math is taught in appreciation for real world application and in preparation for advancement with the opportunity for receiving high school credit in Algebra I. Our latest addition to our curriculum and encompassing a wide range of subject areas is Latin. Latin enhances our Catholicity. Latin root words are the foundation in Science and the language of Law, Government, and Theology. Latin supports learning grammar in the English language as well as prepares students to learn other foreign languages.
