A letter from our pastor...
Thank you for your interest in our school. What we offer at SJB is an education of the whole student — mind, body and soul. At the heart of our school is our Catholic identity, which is evident in the lessons taught; visible in the art and decorations on the walls; and practiced by all involved in the school. In addition to academic excellence, the real strength of SJB resides in the Catholic faith that surrounds every aspect of our school.
Praying with children makes for a very powerful experience. At St. John Berchmans, both in the classroom and on the athletic field, the student is not only able to pray but encouraged to pray. In a Catholic school our faith and culture are infused into each area of the curriculum and into the other activities sponsored by the school. In this way the students can make the correlation between the Gospel and its values, the Church and her teachings, and their lives.
My contact with parents and students is one of the most rewarding aspects of my ministry at the Cathedral. This is never more evident than when I gather with the student body and their teachers for Mass on Wednesdays in our beautiful Cathedral when we worship God, praising and thanking Him for our blessings and petitioning Him regarding our needs and the needs of our families and others.
There is a tangible benefit of Catholic education, which forms and transforms our students. Families need to be encouraged to consider a Catholic school for their children. Yes, a sacrifice is involved, but it is a sacrifice that results in the full development of a child, that no other schooling option can provide.
May God bless you for the sacrifices you make for your children for their education and Faith-Filled Future.
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Peter B. Mangum, Pastor
